Y

Y

Used in headcounts.

The current record is coded "F" on Element 025 (Qualification requirement status), AND:

There is another record or records for the student in the Student File having a code of "F" on Element 025, and either:

(a)    the current record has a higher "rating" in terms of the looked up value for Element 005 (Qualification type) than any other of the records for this student, or

(b)    the current record is tied with another record or records as having the highest rating on Element 005, and it is the first of such records, or

(c)    the value of Element 005 for the current record can be established but the value of Element 005 for all the other records cannot be established, or

(d)    the value of Element 005 for the current record and all the other records cannot be established and it is the first of such records.

N

Records of types other than those specified above.

CODING NOTES:

The values for Element 005 (Qualification type) are the values extracted  from a record "looked up" in the Qualifications File.  The value for Element 001 (Qualification code) in the source record in the Student File is used as the lookup value to find a record in the Qualifications File which has the same value for Element 001.  The value of Element 005 (Qualification type) is then inspected in that found record.  The "rating" is then determined from the value of Element 005 following this order of precedence (the highest rating is listed first):

(a)    If the institution is a university: 08, 07, 06, 05, 04, 03, 02, 01, ZZ

(b)    If the institution is a technikon: 30, 29, 28, 27, 26, 25, 24, 23, 22, 21, ZZ
